Free Yourself from Fear

A few months ago, a friend of mine kindly shared an interesting e-book with me, which along with other readings and personal experiences, has inspired today's post! Thank you Gaby for this contribution!


So what is fear? In a few words: it is a feeling of distress, apprehension, or alarm caused by impending danger.
Fear triggers our fight or flight response, which is our body's primitive, automatic, inborn response that prepares the body to "fight" or "flee" from perceived attack, harm or threat to our survival. So, in this context fear can be a protective feeling.

But fear can be very destructive if present when there is no imminent threat, no real danger. The problem is, the brain does not know the difference between a real danger and an imaginary one, so the body will react in the same way and will trigger the same responses whether the danger is real and imminent or whether it is just a product of our imagination.

If the fight or flight response is triggered constantly, without any real need, the body will enter a chronic state of stress, that will affect its overall well-being. In modern-day society, most people suffer from chronic stress because fear is very prevalent, but most of the things we fear are imaginary and they will never come to pass!

It is important to note that fear is an emotional response triggered by our own thoughts, and it greatly decreases our power to resolve any situation. Fear is one of the reasons why people hold back on living a joyous and fulfilling life, it prevents them from taking action, taking risks, trusting others, trusting themselves, etc.

Aside from personal fears, there are also collective fears, these build-up a negative energy field around us all, and we absorb this energy even unknowingly. A good advice to protect you from collective fear is to limit your exposure to news broadcasts, especially when they focus on frightening or sad events that you have no control over. watching and listening to these news make you more vulnerable and adds to the field of collective fear, in other words, it is bad for you and bad for everyone else.

It is true that there are many scary things out there in the world, but don't forget there are also many wonderful things to ponder, focus more on the good things, and remember that what you give your attention to, grows! And you have the power to make that choice, it is a wise choice that will serve you and your fellow human beings better.

Also, fear is at the root of all negative emotions, deep inside, if we look at most negative emotions such as guilt, anger, resentment, sadness, etc. they all, without exception, stem from fear, fear of being alone, of being rejected, of not being good enough, etc.

Just as fear is at the root of negative emotions, love is at the root of positive emotions like: happiness, joy, gratitude, serenity, inspiration, etc. So fear and love can not coexist!

In my personal experience, understanding fear and its grip on humanity has helped me view the world in a totally different way. I just would like to share 2 main ways in which I have benefited from this understanding.

1.- For one thing, I do not take things personally because I believe most negativity comes from an emotion that deep inside is triggered by fear, and fear makes a person vulnerable, confused, and more prone to loosing control of their reactions. So, I have grown more forgiving and compassionate as a result of understanding fear.

2.- The other positive aspect of understanding that fear is ultimately triggered by our own thoughts, is that I have been able to break free from its grip by protecting myself from collective fear, and by working on controlling my thoughts in order to protect myself from personal fears.

For me, it has been a very liberating process, and I am thankful for it.

Many people live by the idea that you have to "Hope for the best and prepare for the worst" What an incredible contradiction!, what a horrible mind-set! This statement denotes a high level of mistrust and FEAR!
Perception that things "could go wrong" doesn't mean they will! And how can you truly hope for the best if you are expecting (preparing for) the worst!, it just doesn't make sense!

Fear, as any other emotion, emits an energy vibration that attracts similar vibrations, so if you are constantly fearing things or events, there is a greater chance those things may come to happen. This is a dangerous vicious cycle, because when things or events, that were feared, do happen, people see it as a confirmation that their fears where justified, when in reality it was their fears that most likely attracted the events in the first place.

If there are many things that scare you out there, or inside yourself, you need to face the fear and BE the change you wish to see in the world. Your level of vibration will affect the collective vibration! Free yourself from fear and you will help others along the way, plus, you will feel an incredible relief, a great sense of liberation.
